I will now go back to my normal, mostly inane, posting. I also will be aware the LJ could, and would, decide to make me PNG at any time because I'm not a "normal" demographic for the "community" that they want.

I will endeavor to keep current backups, and I will be looking for some way to do html scrapes of posts+comments on an automatic basis that doesn't involve windows.

Forgive? Maybe. Forget? Not fucking likely.

However, there are a few legal issues here that bug me:

1) If you suspect a crime is or has been committed, don't delete a journal, call the cops!!
2) If you accuse someone publicly of criminal behavior, but can't/don't/won't back it up with evidence and reporting it to the authorities, you could be committing libel and defamation.
3) Deleting journals and communities on the basis of keywords in interests is pretty slipshod.
4) Fiction, fantasy, or discussion of lusts and thoughts is not the same as doing them, even under the current mess of US Law. Really.
5) Isn't breaking/violating your own process as described in your ToS a breach of contract??
6) Trying to claim listed "interests" mean that a person "likes" or "advocates" them would probably get laughed out of court, IMO.
7) As I understand it, a person's content is theirs, and a hosting service is shielded by the "common carrier" provisions of the law *if* they do not exercise editorial control over it. Deleting "objectionable", but not illegal, content could be construed as exercising editorial control.

Again, IANAL, nor do I play one on TV.

I need to have defined for me what rights I have under my permanent membership contract with LJ. If they can blithely change their ToS on the fly about this stuff, what else can they do, without me having any recourse other than abandoning my journal (and money)? Will I log in one day to a page full of ads for fundie churches, my journal redacted of all content not fit for sheltered 5 year olds??

Apparently even Perverted Justice can't tell the difference between active child molesters and pedophiles who do not act on their urges.

Pedophilia is a mental illness. True, it's a revolting mental illness, but unless the person actually harms or financially supports the harm of a child (actual images of child porn), it's not illegal. No harm, no foul.

I some days feel sorry for people with this problem - they can't even admit the urges enough to get help without being reported for something or socially ostracized. How are they supposed to get help if admitting the problem is an instant police record or something?

Yes, kids need protecting. Their parents are the first line of defense, not LJ/6A. Pre-pubescent kids don't belong on LJ unsupervised, IMO

But making things worse for people who have been victims of child molesters and people who are fighting mental illness is not protecting anyone.

Well, apparently because I'm a member of childfree, and because I was annoyed, yet amused, by someone who decided to wank and whine on them, a friend has decided to remove me from their reading list.

This actually upsets me.

Why? It's not like I post all kinds of CF stuff here. I don't understand. Because I oppose stereotyping all childfree as bigotted assholes (even though some truly are)? Because I am offended by drama wanks and such who spew those stereotypes at me? Because I don't like chickenshits in any community (as opposed to personal journal) who like to dish it out but can't take it, and I like an occasional flambe session?? Because I'm a member of (at least one) community that has some very immature members? Or because I sometimes write about political and work stuff from a CF perspective?

OK, some of the angry epithets used by the hardcore childfree types are downright nasty. I don't use them, and just tend to roll my eyes when I read them. Which ones are the nastiest is a matter of personal opinion. But I don't tend to use them here. Why? It's a slang used in a certain subculture, and just plain not appropriate for general use. The same applies to other slang used in other subcultures - pagan, fannish, etc. That and some are just... stupid, crude, or unfunny.

Yes, I'm childfree. I disapprove of bratty kids, and their negligent caretakers. I am horrified by child abuse and neglect. I also love my neice and nephews, and enjoy seeing kids that are well raised. I understand that no kid is an angel all the time - I sure wasn't.

If you don't like childfree, or cf_hardcore, don't read them, please, it will only piss you off. I don't read right wing conservative (e.g. conservatism2)or pro-bush (e.g. community4bush) communities for the same reason.

elorie, you are a chickenshit. Fine, you own note_to_asshat. You are free to post all kinds of abuse of members of other communities (like childfree) and then not allow them to respond. It's your little empire, after all. I just think you are so fucking lame, you can dish it out but can't take it in.

But don't fucking assume that we all have the same motive for wanting to join your little community. Some of us just wanted to be able to post notes to asshats. I thought it was a cool concept, and a couple of my friends were already there.

If you can be bothered to read my journal, you see that I encounter a lot of asshats. Only a few of those asshats involve children, or, more correctly, their lazy assed parents who don't know when it just fucking isn't appropriate to take a small child to certain types of (boring for the kid) events. You know, like bars, gory movies, R and X rated movies, nightclubs, business meetings, academic conferences (except those on child development), construction zones, hazardous or crowded environments, etc. Just like CF people don't belong in Chuck-E-Cheeses, or pregnant women don't belong in certain portions of a wafer fab, there are just places kids don't belong.

Hell, my friends with kids would never take their small kids into business conferences, gory movies, bars or crap like that. They actually care about their kids, and don't want to subject them to crushing boredom, risk of serious nightmares, risk of getting hurt, or the irritation of being told to shut up every 5 minutes. They actually parent their kids, what a concept! They care about their kids and other people too!

So, elorie, you make generalizations about people, applying your own little bigotries and stereotypes, and you *will* get lambasted and mocked in the communities that you stereotype *and* in the journals of the people you piss off. You didn't want drama and wank? Then why in the living fuck did you start it, chickenshit?

EDIT: What's worse is that the lame twit is part of the internet pagan community. Sad. You'd think she'd know better than to start throwing around stereotypes about alternate lifestyles and choices. What an idiot. The peabrain has the nerve to call me an asshat because I don't like ill behaved kids in places where they don't belong and chose not to have kids of my own. If it wasn't so pathetic, I'd be laughing at the irony. I bet she doesn't have the balls to post outside of anywhere that she isn't lord and master over, and take her medicine.
