If I have to justify my rights to you, or "ask nicely" if I can speak, act or live, then you don't consider them rights at all, and we have nothing to discuss. If for you it's just "policy" or "debate", but for those like me it is life or death, I do not consider that you have a say in the matter.

You've probably heard, if you are paying attention, about the murder of Trayvon Martin. Oh, the cops are calling it "self defense" and letting his murderer walk free. It's in that racist cesspit Florida, after all.

Think about this the next time you get twitchy about seeing a black or latino teenager just meandering down the street. He's just a kid, with as much right to walk around in public as any adult. Wearing a hoodie, hood up or down, isn't a fucking criminal act, damnit.
Hell, if you meet a kid wandering down the street, meet his eye, smile, say hi or wave. He's your neighbor, and has a right to be there, just like you.

This makes me sad, angry, and a whole lot of other things.
A bunch of teenagers beat and then killed another human being because of the color of his skin. No other reason.
I could go into the cultural shit behind it, but I won't. It's just fucking wrong.
It was wrong 50 years ago, it's wrong now.
Now the victim's family gets to deal with everything that it dredges up, inside and out, including the freaks coming out of the woodwork, on top of burying the victim of a senseless, vicious murder.
Lynching isn't gone, they just don't bother with the rope now, they use pickups instead.
Can I leave the planet now?

ladyqkat pointed me at Things I Don’t Have to Think About Today by John Scalzi. He very nicely touched on racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, ablism, and other privileges that those who have them don't ever think about. There are more good ones in the comments.
When I meet someone on the net, I don't know, or care, what racial category they put themselves in. Unless they mention it, or put it in their bio, I don't even think about it. Heck, I sometimes don't have a clue as to their gender identity either, unless they mention it, or something related to it.

If I was in Obama's shoes, I'd be tempted to respond "Yeah, this 'boy' is 'uppity' - I dare to run for president! Does that have your lilly white knickers in a twist? Good!!"

BTW, I think it's only fair to judge Sarah Palin and her family by Sarah Palin's own standards that she, and those like her, would impose by law on the rest of us. Bed, made, lie.
