This past weekend we finally, after 13 years, planted some fruit in the yard. I bought bareroot plants, and wheedled, cajoled, and bribed my roomies to help put them in. One of them I didn't give any notice to, so he couldn't talk me out of it *again*. I only fell down once while planting the blueberry bushes.

I checked on them this morning. So far, so good, they look like they are settling in nicely.

Re: Shades of the mulberry tree and ants in pants

*grin* The plants are in pairs, and the blueberries are 2 plants each of two varieties.

RE strawberries: we have ivy. It is trying to eat the yard. I hate the stuff, especially the big leaf type we have to deal with. We cut it back every year. This spring, I plan on getting an orchard tray (like two dozen) of little strawberry plants, and seeing which ones win - starting the strawberries a little away from the ivy, and encouraging them to spread. If the damn yard has to be overrun by a creeping plant, it should at least produce food.

[livejournal.com profile] datapard has some red onions and white onions to plant this coming weekend, since they are bulbs. We are also thinking about a great big ceramic pot for mint, so we can keep it from trying to eat the yard. However, if the strawberries lose, the mint will get a chance.

BTW, the zuchinni was worse for overabundance - I will go for cukes if I go for anything phallic, at least I can pickle those.

Yes, I remember ants in the pants. I can't look at an active anthill even now without wanting to chuckle... ;-) You would've made belly dancers jealous with that shimmy.
