So, I have a large uterine fibroid, and an ovarian cyst. It's made my last few periods *worse* than usual. Two weeks ago I was cramping and flooding for two days straight.

I had my consult today about what to do about it. There are partial measures that might solve the problem, but it could re-occur. So I'm having a historectomy by laparoscope on Nov 16, and the pre-op is Nov 8. The bad thing is that the doc insists that it will be 6 weeks before I can return to work. Merry Christmas to me!

The best thing? Even though the clinic also did fertility and stuff, No Bingo! Zero, zilch, zip.

I hope to have my tampon burning party in December... ;-)

tampon burning...now there's a new type of celebration. Maybe I should have done that when I realized I was done. It might have made it easier to take. Of course I don't miss having those periods, but all of these little changes add up to...age...for me. And I'm not ready.

Oh, and good-oh! Manageable! Is hysterectomy the only solution to a uterine fibroid?

No, they can just try to take out the fibroid, but I'd just grow another one. Endometrial ablation only addresses the bleeding, but leaves the fibroid. So the options were a) do nothing, b) endometrial ablation, c) try to take out the fibroid, and d) historectomy. I picked the most likely to work and be permanent: historectomy.

May Frigga walk with you and Eir bring you comfort and healing.

It's really for the best. My shield sister was plagued with fibroids for several years. Finally did the hysterectomy this spring, and has been problem free since. Kind of drastic, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Hope all goes well. May Frigge and Eir watch over you.

Would it be wrong for me to say I envy you? Lol. I reallllyyy hope that everything goes very well for you, and that you heal well (Yeah yeah, it's a long time away and I'll most likely say it again) but good luck!

That's disturbing about the six weeks (although I know you could use the rest), but otherwise--great.

I'd have been pretty appalled if they bingoed you even tho you are a spring chicken compared to me. On the other hand, in this crazy world and given your youthful appearance . . .

Hey! Guess what? YOU managed to keep your uteris a year longer than your Gma (she had fibroids too) and almost ten years longer than your mother. I am so glad that they can do it with the laproscopy now. It should make things much easier. Do take the full six weeks though. Don't be a dumbunny and try to do stuff too soon as your Mother did and end up down and out for three months plus!!! I think that if you do as the doc says, you may also limit the effects or totally avoid the trauma induced menopause with all of its problems. I take it they are leaving your ovaries? If so, you will likely still be able to have a light menopause at the proper time.

Gma is back in the hospital. Scheduled for MRI tonight or tomorrow. When she gets out, it will be to a nursing home for a while. Depending on how she does and all it may end up a permanent placement. That is because her mental status has deteriorated markedly in the past couple of weeks. She doesn't even know what year it is and thinks that I am her mother. She is 35 and living on Long Island and Gpa has gone out for a short beer. Not something I do easily or lightly, but with a heavy heart and knowledge that it is what is best for her now. She will take any and all pills she can find in an effort to stop her headache. Puts Desitin on her head thinking it is Vicks etc. Kicks her soiled bedsheets into the corner and tries to sleep on the mattress alone. Kicks the chux pad off the other side of the bed. Is flopping around like a fish on transfers to her chair. Forgets to open garage for kitties and even can't take her Blood glucose or blood pressure. Says she feels like a "shit in a thunderstorm and constantly asks for meds for her headache even after just taking them. Stopped eating, even drinking her shakes. Should find answers tomorrow.

Bill was also in hospital last week. He is home now. I need to get my knee fixed. Had MRI last week and awaiting results for surgical consult. Bill is home because J tube is strange to most nurses. They try to mess it up and kill him because they won't listen and try treating it like a G tube which it is not. Oh the storied I could tell and he has only had the thing for three months!

Hugz to you. If you need me. Call me. Shall I send you all my J.D. Robb books? Yarn? what? Love you and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
