My cars have always come to me. I'd would need it, and it was available. I've never bought a car from a car lot.
So, I thought I'd put out what I need in a set of wheels:
* SUV (or minivan, maybe crew cab truck) - I need to be able to sleep two in the back on camping trips
* 4WD/AWD
* tow hitch/wiring
* roof rack
* 6 ft min rear bed with seats down
* Seats 4+ w 4 doors
* << 100,000 miles
* Working A/C, heater and fan
* Automatic transmission in good repair
* not white, not crunchy
* no major problems
* No oil leaks
* no payments - < $15,000
Some of these are not as critical as others. My only reason for preferring SUVs over trucks is that they seat 4, rather than 2, and have a covered bed with flexible cargo/seating space. I regard them as flexible trucks, and drive that way. I'd go for a full sized van, but it might not fit in the garage at work.
