No On California Prop 8!!

Please, see and read THIS. I don't feel that a vocal religiously motivated minority should take away or remove rights from anyone.

Proposition 8 is a mean-spirited, malicious, bigoted piece of garbage promulgated by people who are so insecure in their own sexuality, marriage or religion that they want to enshrine discrimination into the California Constitution.

The LDS Church is functioning as a PAC with their wholehearted support of this measure, and is walking a fine line with regard to the Establishment Clause.

I keep reading that the no on 8 ads are pretty lame. I wouldnt know, I've not heard or seen one.

I have seen a few no signs out in the wild but not many. I had a hard time finding them but managed to get one to put up (only by a double fluke that got me to the Castro).

Meanwhile, I have heard at least 4 yes ads and seen 1 yes bumper sticker. My spouse and my work cube mate both report yes folks have knocked on their doors.

I'm worried that this looks not so much different than the prop 22 situation years back. Lots of activity on the supporting side. And little to nothing for opposition.

I dearly hope thats not the case. Unlike the yes folks, *MY* marriage is indeed on the line here...

They make the point that Prop 8 is *not* just a gay issue but is, in fact, an issue of civil rights.

We have a "Yes" person around the corner, and a number of "No" signs have disappeared in our neighborhood. I'll be wearing my "No" t-shirt every weekend day that I'm not working at the museum (we have a dress code) and acting as a walking billboard.

My husband and I both believe that everyone having civil rights *enriches* marriage.

I like to point out that one could change their ads just a teensy bit, and make it interracial marriage that they're objecting to, and suddenly we're back in an earlier era of Bad Old Days. Except that slippery slope is still only a step away, too. Any time people start voting about taking away rights for whomever they object to, we're in trouble.

I've been engaged in a very unemotional discussion of this on Facebook, lately. About how this is all discrimination by genetics or morphology, essentially. And how easy it is to go into other discriminations from there...

But then, there are factions out there that are sounding an awful lot like certain fascist governments lately, not to name names.
