Hope you don't mind if I comment here. I think I know the survey you speak of and one thing that lept out to me in the retoric was "it is okay to torutre evil people". Huh? The person they call evil think that they are evil.
There are things I consider 'evil', but those who practice those things do not consider their actions evil. What? Only the 'winner' in these debates can dictate what evil is?
I believe that those who follow certain religious paths forget that the 'winner' of the conflict wrote the missives and, per their agenda, will promote their cause as being 'just and right' even when evidence exists to the contrary.
Exactly, and that's part of the problem with religious based moral relativism. First they demonize their opponents - declare them "immoral", "evil", "satanic" - and then use the "anything goes in the fight against evil" mentality to justify whatever harm they wish to do. The same thing happens in exorcisms - they'll sanctimoniously kill the victim in order to "save" them.
