Last night the power went out. I had expected it, of course. It usually goes out at least once in a storm season. So as D set out the oil lamps, I went outside and spent some time with an old friend.

The wind, always interesting here on the western side of Silicon Valley, was blowing hard enough to make that low moaning whine periodically as it whipped through the trees. The storm itself was mocking all of the oversized yuppie mansions on the street, saying "Ha! Even expensive houses are vulnerable to my wrath!"

The storm itself seemed to have a rage, for having been ignored, or dismissed by so many as "unimportant", "just weather". It delighted in fouling all of the neatly kept lawns and street with debris - mostly tree branches and palm fronds. It even made comment on the Bushie and fundie ideas that "man" had "dominion" over nature, and thus it. "Not so!" said the wind and rain.

It welcomed me into its fury, chiding me for having been away for so long. "Does it take removing power from your computer to get you to remember where you came from, and what you are??" So I spent a while, until it started to rain too hard for my coat, basking in the wind. I saw the briliant colors of the lighning as it flashed deep withing the cloud layer. I laughed as pieces of those infernal palm trees went tumbling by in the street.

Then I went in, recharged by the power that only a storm has. As I paused at the door, a howling gust reminded me "Don't stay away so long again".

Thank you, both for the visuals and the reminder.
I got whacked in a dream a few nights ago about talking with the winds again (ever been bawled out by a big-ass, old wind from a big, old mountain range? Erm... don't. And remind me to tell you the story sometime, about the winds down by the Steens...), and getting my relationship with them back into order.
*chuckle* I love synchronicity...really, I do....
