http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4815912.stm - "US evangelicals warn Republicans"

"Support from about a quarter of Americans who describe themselves as evangelicals was a factor in President George W Bush's two election victories."

The "quarter" is an overstatement, for one. For another, we have a narrow, repressive, religious group trying to dictate the behavior and "morals" for an entire secular country, most of whom do not share their puritanical, calvinistic views. They want, essentially, a theocracy, and will brook no argument, rational or otherwise, against it. They claim to be "persecuted", but their agenda persecutes any and all who don't share their narrow viewpoint.

What's worse? The fucking Republicans are listening to these jerks, and doing their dirty work.

When will the majority get fed up with this crap, and curb their political influence? Do people even care about their first ammendment rights, or do they just want to watch "reality" TV and swill berr?

Don't get me wrong, evangelical Christianity has it's place: in the churches and individual lives of those who adhere to that creed.

But keep it the fuck out of government, and the lives of those who don't want to share that particular flavor of kool-aid.

Problem is, when the majority of people couldn't give a flying fuck.. it's loudest biggest minority that gets all the attention..

Plus, these people believe that whatever they do is Gods will and therefore right and that the ends always justifies the means. So getting their way by whatever means necessay is perfectly ok.

I think that the actual statement is something to do with 1/4 of the evangelicals supported Shrub. But they want it to look like more. Read it carefully. In short, he can't even get a 1/3 vote from the evangelicals. But the problem is that 7/8 of America belongs to the Political Apathy party, which trumps just about everything...

I'm not sure that evangelical Christianity does have its place. It's hard to make a case that these beliefs really are private, because they affect viewpoints and actions that affect a lot of us. Unfortunately.

You forgot one lil' bit. They want a theocracy here, and the overthrow of opposing theocracies elsewhere.

Mutex. Yet people still buy in.

You know what I mean.
