I officially hate those cheesy emachines and their really, really crappy wheel mice that don't want to configure as anything other than slow-as-molasses click-impaired crap in XF86Config. Thank the gods I have my own serial trackball - if I had to actually *use* the little POS mouse I would be homicidal very quickly.

I didn't realize how much faster and better my optical mouse is until I was using Gma's normal wheel mouse today. ARGH! Optical is the only way to mouse. I am sure the Tracball is about the same-- I mean, I am sooo used to going sideways with the mouse and the wheelmice don't do that very well. They get lost ---- Here mousie mousie mousie. LOL

Bummer is the Gma's machine seems to have too small a hard drive to take the REader Rom software that I got her and when I went to Update her win98se, the damned stuff wouldn't install and I got a Hard drive full reading. BAck to the drawing board! {Actually I am going to get a newer, bigger Hard drive for her so that we can try again next week or so. I have a source lined up, I think}

Doncha hate going back to 98se or some such after working in either linux or an nt OS like Win2000 pro?

Too Damned Small! I actually forgot to check it this afternoon as she was having sugar ups and downs as in 407 at 3:45 pm and then 23 at 5:10 pm. I am glad that I was there, but we also had a search to do for my birth certificate in the files of her filing cabinets and the freezer stuff, so I neglected to check the hardware before I deleted some files and turned her machine off. I think, if I remember rightly as it was Bill's machine before he got his new one, that it is only about 550 megs. If all goes well she will have at least a 1.6 Gig drive by next week. If the spirit moves me I might even get her a new 56K modem and install it. She is using my 28K external right now. The phone lines here are sooooooo slow for dial-up that I may switch her to DSL light if she takes to the cpu again. Her eyes are so bad that she may decide that it is too frustrating to try to read it. That is what I was working on, setting up READER ROM for her so that she could listen and read a book on the machine. Eventually I hope to get the machine to read everything to her, but only if she shows interest in working on it.
