I just found out that two of my longtime friends just got married in San Francisco. Chris and Ann have been a couple for at least a decade, if not more. Chris stood by Ann when Ann has an AVM blow out, and a stroke, even when the hospital wouldn't give her info and essentially botched her care, all because she didn't have fancy insurance.
Have a long and happy marriage Chris and Ann, you two deserve it.
And to those religious fanatics who think commitment and caring between same sex couples is some sort of threat to your so-called "family values"? Go Fuck Yourselves!

I hope the city makes a mint in fees for making his opportunity available.
And let me deplore sentiments such as this, which appeared on a heathen list this morning and should be a warning that it is not just religious fanatics who are small-minded, bigoted, selfish assholes who somehow think their rights are diminished by others' acquiring the same rights:
At my work, because of the lack of legal recognition for gay folk(civil union, marriage, whatever), anyone that cohabitates with an employee now gets to get all the benefits of us married folk. It weakens the legal benefits of being married.
Hypocrites ...

I've been playing with bumper sticker designs. One would show two male figures coupled and two female figures couples, with the caption These marriages don't affect my marriage (with a traditional man/woman behind MY and the GL figures behind THESE)-- and on the next line--
THIS marriage does (with a graphic of church and state...perhaps a flag and a cross or somesuch).
Oh, and be sure to tell your friends that not all midwestern housewives are against them. There are many (I am only one) that feel it's about time.

Family Values not limited
As for "family values", I think that family certainly should not be defined as man and woman and children. Family is whatever group of people choose to live together, to love one another and, in the case of children, to work together to raise the children.
Anyone who thinks that the traditional family of male father, female mother and child or children living together is viable has not looked at families in the last half of the twentieth century. That "ideal" has become the minority and isn't even the ideal for most families. Living arangement mobility, the housing market, changing work/play options, and a more free atmosphere regarding sexual orientation has made family to be a much more fluid and, in my opinion, a much more viable and workable group.
The MINORITY, very vocal group shouting "family values" in opposition to gay marriage is definitely way off base with their thinking and, yes, they certainly should go Fuck Themselves -- and standing up in a hammock at that!
