I called today to make my pantheacon hotel reservations. Everything went fine until...
Hotel Bunny: The deadline for that block of rooms was the 21st. You'll have to pay regular rates.
Me: What are the regular rates?
Hotel Bunny: $89 a night gor Friday and Saturday, and $159 a night for Sunday and Monday
Me: WHAT??? $160 a night for sunday and monday on a holiday weekend? That's insane!
Hotel Bunny: Sorry, I don't set the rates.
Me: {growled} Screw that. Have a nice day. <click>

This is absolute, pure, unadulterated bullshit!!!

1) There was no "deadline" mentioned anywhere in the Pantheacon literature. I fucking looked.
2) On that weekend, the con is damn near the *only* business the hotel gets. Those $160 a night rooms will be empty. It's a holiday weekend in a business area, not a damned resort.
3) I know damned well that reservation clerks can tweak the rates, especially for a convention attendee on what would be otherwise a dead, money sink weekend. She must've though I was stupid enough to pay it, the bimbo.

Now I have to get a hold of someone who can straighten this crap out for me. That will mean having to deal with con people under my real name, which I loathe doing for privacy reasons.

I am mad enough to chew nails and spit tacks. The doubletree reservation desk bimbo's idea of service sucks boulders through cockrail straws.

Damn :-( You couldn't stay somewhere else, could you?

I live within 15 miles of the place. A room is just a base of operations at the con, and a place to nap without having to drive.

Then save your money, or spend it on food! Frankly, though, I would get a room at a cheap motel and that way I'd have the napping space and the full vacation feeling.

Hm!

Do you have Bella's e-mail address? She's the webmistress of the P-Con sites and co-chair of Programming. With her webmistress had, she'd surely know if something went pear-shaped about room rates, or at the very least could put you in touch with the Site Liasion...

If you got the hotel bunny's name, write to PCon and tell them exactly what happened. I don't know if there is a deadline, but if there isn't, you'll both get some good assistance on your room sitch and help the convention itself. Their contract has some juicy perks if the hotel buggers people's reservation attempts.
