Friend, that is. One of my roommates, Michele, died today of a heart attack. At age 40.

She started finally getting medical attention for her heart troubles last year. Before that, the doctors just said "You're fat. Lose weight. Go on a diet and start walking."

Never mind that she had a bum leg, and couldn't exercise. Never mind that she only ate ~ 1000 calories a day - she couldn't hold any more than that. Her metabolism was so badly f*cked up by the chemical stew that the state funded quacks had fed her throughout her life (she'd been in and out of "the system" since early childhood) that she ate nearly nothing and kept gaining weight, and getting weaker.

She was on disability. The quacks stereotyped her as "drug seeking" because she knew the list of drugs that she was allergic to.

So chalk up another victim of "compassionate conservatism" - starting with Reagan.

Please accept our sincere condolences. I don't think I / we met Michelle, when we visited, but I remember hearing good things about her.

And you comments concerning the GOP are solemnly noted and well placed.

You have my sincerest sympathies and empathies, as I just lost my best friend Jana to a heart attack a little over a month ago. (I don't know if you remember Jana...) The one precursor sign was pretty well dismissed. Time Magazine just recently had an article on women and heart attack and mentioned that doctors don't take our heart problems seriously. I know that I was told for years that my heart problem was "indigestion" until it manifested so dramatically they couldn't be ignored. Condolences to all
