An article snippet for those who think I'm just being pessimistic:
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The technology downturn continues to hammer California's Silicon Valley, where the unemployment rate in October was 7.9 percent, the highest level since 1983 and well above last month's statewide average of 6.4 percent.

This number doesn't count people like me whose unemployment has run out, and thus are not considered "unemployed" by the state... People like me who are female, over 40 and disabled, thus the first to be fired and last to be hired.

No holiday gifts from me this year, either.

Knew you weren't just being pessimistic.

Wish there were work up here I could recommend you for, but there's dammed little in Oregon. Our statewide unemployment rate is higher than California's, though lower than your area. Things are even worse in Washington, from what I understand.

Best of luck to you, ducks. It's cold out there, and I've a feeling it's going to get a lot colder before the thaw comes....
