The most recent saga: Read more... )

What a circus.
* My creditors are always calling, and then hanging up, or leaving long messages on my machine, or sending me nasty grams.
* I worry if we'll be able to make the rent. (Yes, I'm the roomie that puts ~90% of my chintzy unemployment into the household for rent and utilities. None of my other roomies do.)
* My unemployment will be totally gone next month, including *both* federal extensions!
* My roomie S told one of the agencies that she was on another assignment, and referred them to me. They didn't call. The jerks don't want to place gimps when there are able-bodied people available, apparently. Don't want to upset the client, or something.
* I have to sponge gas money off of people I run errands for. I can't afford books, haircuts, or any other form of entertainment. The only way I even go to McDonalds is for someone else to pay.
* I can't afford to go to ConJose, even for 1 day.

Put Me To Work!!!

Realistic suggestions for someone who has the use of only one hand, walks slowly with a limp, can't deal with jerks well, but is computer savvy and has a pleasant phone voice (I only cuss after I hang up) are welcome.
* I do junior unix/linux/BSD sysadmin, perl and shell scripting, and admin CVS repositories.
* I am available long term or short term. W2 or 1099.
* Need a system installed? If you have the software, but not the time, let me know - I make house calls in the Silicon Valley area!

Just heard from G. The social worker at the hospital is encouraging him to put N in a nursing home. He's talked to N's daughter, and she is for it.

I have to agree. Every time her mobility is reduced, she gets *more* demanding. G seldom get a full time of sleep - he's always having to do every little thing for her. I've spent two or three hours with her, and it's not just to G.

She's my friend, but she's being a demanding, drama queen ass. She has forgotten about thinking about others, which would have horrified the old N, but the needing, "helpless" N won't even hear about.

If she really needs 24x7 care, her friends and family just plain don't have the resources to do it themselves. It's a bitch to have to say that, but the alternative is neglect, physical burnout on G's part, and possible accidental self injury on Nina's part.

Who knows, maybe at a nursing home she'll get to be a nice, sociable retired HPS for the people there. I'm hoping this all works out...
