I spend a buttload of money this weekend.

I bought my roomie a new cell phone, since hers was dieing, and she's out of work. I consider this fair, at the very least, since she paid our cell phone bill all by herself last year (instead of just her half). Way more than the cost of a new phone. We also hit a geek store and bought a lot of consumables and books at outrageous sale prices (O'Reilly classics for $4 and $5, O'Reilly pocket guides for $2!) Got a couple spare cell phone headsets for $6 each (regularly $20).

Two weeks ago I got new tires and brakes on her car. Since she went out and bought most of the groceries (especially eggs, milk and meat) last year, especially near the end, I figured it was a good way to start repaying that too.

We also restocked some of our canned goods that we'd eaten down over the last year and a half. Having a nice stock of food in reserve meant that we didn't starve even when no one in the house had any money to spend on groceries.

I have begun paying down a few of my bills. The people that get paid first are the people who worked with me, and treated me like a person, not a deadbeat. I'm looking into how to deal with the rest, since they want 100% *only* and I still haven't got it.

I'm also looking at contributing to all of those nice non-profits that have been protecting my rights as best they can in this climate. Probably not until next month, though. I need to put more bills to rest. I am figuring that if I am still here at this job in July, I will get myself a new laptop (less than $1,000) for my birthday.

Still, it feels good to be able to help others again.

MicroCenter in Santa Clara. Most of their prices suck, and they sometimes don't get enough stock on the sale items. The books are all older editions, but the on the O'Reilly books most of it is still valid.
