In the last 25 years, we've had 17 years of republican presidents: Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2. Even during Clinton's democratic terms, congress was packed with republicans, and their "Contract onwith America", and harrying him with trivia about sex, while they systematically dismantled the funding for America's essential infrastructure and emergency services, calling it "waste". They "overhauled" the welfare system, so the poor got poorer, and sicker, and had fewer resources, less and less safety net.
What we are seeing in NOLA is the fruits of their efforts, and probably the real goal. Let the poor die off. The ultimate form of economic darwinism by people who profess to believe in "inteligent design" and a merciful god. The irony and hypocrisy burn.
I have nothing but hatred for the neoconservative "movement", the "Religious Right" and the "Reagan revolution".
When Reagan ran for re-election, he asked "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" My answer was a resounding "NO", and I voted against him. But others were content in the illusion that they were better off, because credit was easier to get, and debt didn't seem to matter.
I guess it doesn't matter if the poor die, because they are all "saved" by the churches that are the only ones who will feed them. This may be the real goal of the "faith based" initiative: to convert the poor before they are neglected to death. If they are "saved", they won't care if they have nothing here and now, and are abandoned to the forces of the "market" and nature.
I want to kill someone for this crime, but I have no gun and no clear target.
