I saw a perl scripter, linux, apache mysql sysadmin job advertised yesterday for only $30K/year in San Jose (Bay Area). I'm so fucking depressed and plain hungry that I applied for it, hoping that it's a typo. Sysadmin and perl hacking - for less than $15/hr. It ought to be illegal. I know that treating it as a salary position *is* illegal (under $25/hr is hourly if it's sysadmin/programming, in CA).
The last time I took a job drastically below what I had been making, it was a hell job, and it took me over a year to build back my tattered self esteem from having to be that desparate. Same with the time before. But I need income, and at least this is still in my field.
I hate this. I figured that to just make my rent, food, and car insurance I need to make at least $400/week, gross. This assumes that I declare bankruptcy, and have no credit cards or any other "luxuries".
I want to cry. Unemployment in Santa Clara County is over 7 percent, and doesn't count folks like me who's unemployment (including extensions) has run out.
I'm tired of being insulted by recruiters, jobs ads, and the whole bunch of BS. I never was one of those kids fresh out of college demanding 6 figure salaries, why do *I* have to suffer the backlash??
Please, if you have any good wishes toward getting good, solid money, work send them my way. I really, really need them.
My car needs reg and smog ($$), my creditors are now calling anyone with the same last name in the area, I may have to disconnect my phone line, and I only have my rent through January (If I don't get work before January, I will be on the street in February - no more rabbits in my hat.)
Help!!!! Whimper
