N has been sent home, as of today. Supposedly she is mobile "enough", but will need people to be there "just in case" when her hubby goes to work. Great. That means D has to spend several nights a week until we are sure she can function solo.
Why D? Because he is the only one of their friends in good enough condition to lift her. Plus, we are the only friends they have who have bothered to keep in touch with N & G since they stopped going out to circle events.
It turns out that, even with medicare and financial aid, it would still cost G $400 a month to have N cared for in a nursing home. This is $400 that he and N don't have - and none of their family does either.
So G goes back to waiting on N hand and foot, with her bitching and crabbing all the way because she hates needing help, but can't motivate herself to work around her troubles.
I really hate the medical "care" system in this country.
