Remember the Bill of Rights? It's now one big step closer to being dead. See Federal agents raid jewelry stores. This is not some fringe rag talking about an odd occurence, this is mainstream news, and a series of raids (read thefts), detentions and outright intimidation by the FBI!
Do you know what happens when you "confiscate" inventory, paperwork, computers and checks? You put the victim out of business, out of a job, and into a financial morass that probably won't be recovered from! If that isn't intimidation, I'd like to see your dictionary!
What rights were violated?
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
This does not mean that FBI fishing expeditions are allowed, folks.
The article itself had no condemnation, except for a brief quote from Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. One paragraph.
Have we gone numb? Are our newpapers and media unwilling to criticize the new "Homeland Security" forces? Or is the fourth estate just afraid to call the bushies on their crap for fear of getting their press credentials yanked? Have they caved in to Reichfuhrer Bush's intimidation?
Even if the corporate press is too chickenshit to ask the hard questions, we must.
I call on the US Congress to prosecute Ashcroft and Bush on charges of treason, and violation of their oath to uphold the Constitution. They commit one outrage after another, and no one stops them. Instead, Congress passes assinine resolutions that say "Under God" should be part of the pledge, in violation of the first amendment:
