Well, my contract ended today. Not unexpected, my part of the project was done, and I was not able to hack intricate C code to work on other stuff. I did express my willingness to come in and fix bugs on a week by week basis.

Now, this gig has left me with an open source project that I really want to do, although the "need" for it is small, and only in the embedded space. I really need to put together a minimalist box, and a lot of weird printers. I also might be doing a book proposal, if I come up with a useable zen to put on paper. The project definitely would be OSS reputation-ware. Still, it means a lot of work, buckling down and (re)learning C, and other stuff not normally in a sysadmin's purview.

Apparently, my best talent is troubleshooting, and then automating myself out of a job. That's more a systems devewloper than a sysadmin, which is probably why I've tended to slide that direction. Problem is, developers need to do compiled languages, and I am a script maven. So I need to surrender to trhe compiled side of the force, and start doing C, kernel hacking, and writing my own compiled stuff.

Hopefully I can catch up on all my mailing lists, deferred housework, and other stuff too, but I doubt it...
