Laid Off, Again
Stanford eliminated my position. I kind of worked myself out of a job. I'm not the only one - they had to cut the budget by 10%, and the easiest way to do that was to cut positions. I get a few months notice and severance.
Still, it's a drag. I tend to hate the whole interview charade these days. It used to be a lot easier, but there are so many fake people out there, with fake resumes, that there is more effort putting on screening fakes out than trying to find someone who can actually do the job.

But no, Reagan and the subsequent Repuglican administrations made sure my savings for retirement were consumed by either the stock market crashing or having to early withdraw just to pay rent. May they all rot in whatever hell they believe in.

Same, here, save that I'm currently loafing, because I inherited a little money &mdash: not enough to retire upon, but enough to take some time off, and still not burn through it all. I can't get Social Security until I'm 72, so there's also that.
(Yes, I understand I'm privileged as fuck in being able to do so. I unapologetically would retire, permanently, if he'd left me enough to do that, and I sincerely wish he had. Until he died, I didn't have a pot to piss into.) Frankly, I'm astounded that he left me anything, as he'd always bragged that he was going to spend it all before he died, so that his last check bounced after death. (He was doing a good job of it, too, near the end, after DubhStepMonster died.) But anyhow....
I've been out of IT for far too long to get another job in the industry, even if I could, here, where the only jobs are retail, food service, home care, and lawn maintenance. None of which I can do. And, of course, IT has a glass age ceiling of 40-45 years in most areas. Very luckily, for us, what I inherited allows us to isolate, during the current plague. That's...a remarkable level of good fortune, and I'm grateful for that.
Nut...yeah. I'm only a Boomer because I was born three months early. So, as with many, many things, I straddle boundaries in that regard. And I got fucked by the GOP just as you did. I sincerely wish you all the luck in the world, finding a new gig.
