FYI, when I got laid off in 2001, I had ~ 2K in the bank, as savings. My bills were current, or even ahead, and my credit rating was great. All of that is toast. It will take about 5 years to recover.

Seven, actually, for the credit reports IIRC.

Believe me, you've my sympathy. However, as I commented above: You're out of the flat spin and the stall. Now you can start regaining altitude again.

It isn't pretty, it isn't pleasant, and it isn't easy. Then again, you're the last person in the world I would think of reminding that life isn't fair. ;)

Credit ratings and bank accounts can heal, given time and sufficient income. I'm glad you appear to have both, again, now.
