I don't get my car back today. They won't get the drive shaft back in time to put it on the car. This is fine, since I'm at work, etc.

The upshot? ~$1,200., for radiator, flush, thermostat, pcv valve & hose assemble, oil change, air cleaner service, u-joints and drive shaft balance.

Needless to say, I'm not getting the A/C done. The A/C alone would be ~$1,400. - the compressor part alone is $489, then there's another something or other and dryer part for around $389, and then the retrofit kit for $250, plus the labor for installing it all (and one part is buried in the front grill.)

I have been told that they really don't have to change out all of that to use R134 on the auto air conditioning. They can use it without changing everything, just empty the freon and retrofit it and then put in the R134. Hey, if it doesn't work you can always change out the compressor /exchanger and dryer. You don't have the corosion out there I don't think so it may not need all of that. They may be seeing you coming on that one, Kiddo. Ask some of your mechanic friends who have converted their old vehicles if you can do it. A buddy of mine did and it worked fine. He did the same thing with a window AC unit, a big one, and it is putting out colder than ever and not freezing up. Just a thought to save you some bucks.

Actually, the guy at the mechanics recommended that I *not* get the A/C done, since it's just a luxury. Apparently the compressor and dryer are toasted, and would need to be replaced even if I *didn't* retrofit. The retrofit part is only $250, and if the compressor and dryer were ok, that's all I'd need to pay. I'd need to replace the compresssor so that the new coolant didn't leak out, retrofit or not.

I've gone to this guy for several years now, and although the prices are very much California rates, they do ok work.

Damn! the V6 on the blazer has a brand new compressor on the blown engine. I need to get Jim to see if it would work on the 4 banger pickemup. I had forgot about it. I keep forgetting California prices!!! My air heat pump for the house only cost 2600 and that was for a four ton unit and all of the duct work new and taking out the old furnace and putting in a floor to make me another closet YES! They still have the taking out and closet to do. It is now COOL in here.

I have decided that Social Security is nuts! They insist on an ORIGINAL birth certificate for me to get my retirement. Now, I had to have one when I signed up for Social Security, to get my card, originally. It seems to me rather redundant for me to have to give them another one now. It is just a way for the government to suck up another ten bucks and time. I hope they can make it retroactive to when I turned 62 and 8 mos or I am going to pitch a letter writing bitch!!! Oh well, I know it will all work out for the good somehow. I hope you get your car back soon and what is with this A/C is a luxury shit??? That sounds like Petey Bow Wow!! Out there, just as here, it really isn't a luxury. I swelter and have to use the inhaler on hot days ---- or only shop at night. LOL. Not everyone has that luxury and not everywhere is open at night. Love you and hope you get your wheels back soon. ( I ton't have air on the truck and I hate it. I can't take Gma out in the daytime very much during the summer. It is too hot and the passenger window is off the track so cannot go down either. I have to get it fixed this month, but it is a two person job and I am not strong enough to do it on my own. It is always something isn't it? If I win the lotto or some such, maybe I can send you auto A/C for your birthday ----- well, not much chance of it, but I would if I could. Hugz and have a strawberry for me.
