Well, this year has started out very mixed.

The good:
* I went regular at my job, which seems to be doing okay, but the company is a little weird.
* The new job has real health insurance, not the joke that the agency had, and not the screwup that my job from 2021 die to me.
* My spouse is getting social security and medicare, being over 70. This means my health insurance is less.

The bad:
* My roommates car got stolen, from right in front of our house, probably because of an unlocked door.
* Our remaining washing machine died. Now, the previous owner bought two used washing machines and two driers. The water heater in the garage died a few years ago, and we have had a problem getting the demand heater installed. So now we don't even have cold water wash.

I do not want to get another used washer. I want something new, Energy Star, high efficiency with a warranty.

I'm over sixty, I just want shit that works.

Our household is still masking and applying full Covid precaution because one of the roomies is immune compromised. This is not negotiable.

Laid Off, Again

Stanford eliminated my position. I kind of worked myself out of a job. I'm not the only one - they had to cut the budget by 10%, and the easiest way to do that was to cut positions. I get a few months notice and severance.

Still, it's a drag. I tend to hate the whole interview charade these days. It used to be a lot easier, but there are so many fake people out there, with fake resumes, that there is more effort putting on screening fakes out than trying to find someone who can actually do the job.

But hey, I can at least point other people to it so they can enjoy...

Oh, the first payday on the new job won't be until the 25th...

There are others, as well, and I really should highlight them now and again.

Yeah, they pay less then the cities do, but rents are cheaper too...

People are finally leveraging our infrastructure and education. Too bad the GOP wants to fritter it all away in the name of "don't tax me, it's MY money" (that they made because of the infrastructure paid for by others before them...)

Yeah, first they start it with illegals, but strong unions would prevent it from even getting started.

This happens a lot now. There are sweatshops in the US. Not all of them just hire illegals. Corporations had their buddies in the GOP bust union power, so we get screwed by outsourcing, H1(b), and sweatshops.

For every one they catch, there are probably five more.

Welcome to the USA, the newest third world country.
