If you live in California, tomorrow is the last day to register. Go HERE to register.

If you live in other states, get registered or verify that you are registered.

NOTE: The GOP is doing voter registration fraud again - dumping non-GOP registrations in VA, and buying voting machines. If they do it there, they'll do it anywhere, and they've done it before.

They have California labeled as a "Red" state, voting for McCain but with Zero precincts reporting.

California is a blue state, last I checked.

EDIT: Now they switched it to blue. Weirder

Voted today - dropped off my absentee ballot at a polling place - saved a stamp, made sure it got there in time.

I am really nervous about Prop 8. It's the worst, most vicious piece of work that I've seen in a while, and the propaganda that its supporters have put out is nauseating. If it passes, the only people who will gain are lawyers and religious bigots.

McCain looks like a zombie, and half the time is dazed and confused. His VP pick is just creepy. The two of them scare me shitless that they will turn this country into something straight out of the "Handmaids Tale".

He picked a right wing, radical anti-choice, inexperienced, wing nut, Sarah Palin, for a running mate. See this weirdness and this.

Palin's record sucks. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrOcGMwWqkU She wants to teach creationism alongside evolution, even though creationism is a religious thing (whose creation myth, anyway?), but only wants to teach "abstinence" for sex ed - which is probably why her 17 year old daughter is pregnant, and scheduled for a shotgun wedding to the boy in question.

Sarah Palin is unethical, at best. She misrepresents, or doesn't know jack, about energy policy. Aww, hell, look at the lot here.

McCain wants to sabotage health care. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNxyvmvmXr8 He is also anti-choice, anti-stem cell research, and anti-gay marriage. His support for veterans is lukewarm, at best, in spite of the fact that he is one.

One thing that really scares me about McCain is his severe and chronic anger management problem.. This guy still has a public temper worse than I had as a teenager, and he's 72!!! Do you really want him anywhere near the big red button, when he's already on record saying "Bomb Iran"?? He most likely has untreated PTSD, covered up by macho "I'm fine" posturing.

The way he has treated his wives is abominable - dumping his first wife, who waited for him through Vietnam, because she got in an auto wreck and was no longer pretty, and then doing things like calling his current wife a "cunt" in public, and proposing that she enter a wet t-shirt contest. His comments in one of the recent debates about the "health" of the women (his quotes, talking about abortion) tell me that he is a misogynist pig, at best.

His physical health is none too great, either. He already has had a diagnosis of invasive melanoma, plus the wear and tear on his body from Vietnam. While there are concerns about Biden, too, he's only in the VP slot on his ticket.

Yeah, it's another dinky CA primary thing. Still, it matters.

Regarding voting, in general: I am registered "permanent absentee" This means I get mailed my ballot early, can fill it out at home and do research, and then I just drop it off at the polling place on my way to work. No muss, no fuss.

If your state offers this option, I advise it. It takes a lot of the stress out of it, and isn't some funky machine.

We have an election in November, one that will determine the control of the House and the Senate. To avoid the rush, and shenanigans by unscrupulous voting officials, make sure that you are registered NOW!!.

Ask your friends and family, especially those in "swing" states, to verify and/or re-register before September. Don't risk having your application shredded by officials "too busy" to process the paperwork from opposing parties.

The campaigns are starting up already. Be sure to be registered before the other games start.

EDIT: And another thing - I specifically didn't mention either party as tending to practice voter suppression or fraud. I want to hold all parties, major and minor, to the same high standards.

It's high time that people put aside the partisan crap, and realized that many of these politicians that we supposedly elect aren't serving us, but are serving monied interests who couldn't give a damn about the little guy. Both major parties do this. We all need to hold them accountable for their cash box politics.

If the cash box can render the ballot box insignificant or moot, it may be time for the bullet box.

If we don't stand up for the rights of all citizens, we'll all have to kneel to some jerk's whims.
